In this topic I will tell you my favorite music from the month January.
Some songs are not released in this month but those are songs I tend to listen a lot during January of this year!
1) ATEEZ – HALAZIA
This song came out on 30th December of 2022, and i immediately fell in love with this song. The way they can portrait a story through their dance and videos. I don’t know the full meaning of the whole storyline. But the way they tend to bring back stuff from their older music videos, is so amazing! The song starts with Seongwa having the main character role in this video. The videography in this video is topnotch… I still think ATEEZ have the capability to create a whole “streaming service” -SERIE. The story they tell is so incredible, I didn’t know Yeosang had that deep voice… After that you get the rap-line with Hoongjoong and Minghi with great rap flows!!! At the end of the song they even add some Drum-N-Bass elements into their music and the song takes off in energy level! The dancing of this group is IMHO one of the best dancing in Kpop.
2) TWICE – MOONLIGHT SUNRISE
For their 2nd FULL-ENGLISH SINGLE Twice brings some unexpected class and style. From debut a lot of people say Twice is just the CUTE CONCEPT… But after their Japanese single “PERFECT WORLD”, they really got a more mature concept. You see the girls grow up and for their FIRST FULL ENGLISH single called “THE FEELS” they where teens going to Prom. They love to grow up amazingly… After the comebacks with TALK THAT TALK and the performance video of QUEEN OF HEARTS the music is really top tier pop-songs. The styling of the girls is also topnotch! My favorite part will always be Chaeyoung’s rap part! She also got more bars in her rap in this song! After that she also get to sing amazingly in this song! For the real “ONCE” it’s so amazing to see MOMO TZUYU and SANA get more parts in this song! So funny they just put a lyric in the song with the text: “I DON’T KNOW HOW TO SAY THIS, I HOPE THIS SONG IS ON YOUR PLAYLIST!”. Almost al Twice songs will be on my playlist they are my favorite K-pop Girlgroup. They always have a song for your mood… Some funny songs or M/V’s (HEARTHSHAKER) but also some really dark concepts (PERFECT WORLD) or really uplifting lyrics (FEEL SPECIAL). They have songs for everyone’s liking!
3) STRAYKIDS – DRIVE (BANGCHAN & LEE KNOW)
My 3rd song on the playlist is a song who is a bit older but came to Spotify on December of 2022, on the SKZ REPLAY album they added a B-side. On the B-side they released the songs who where already on Youtube as SKZ-PLAYER songs. This song is certainly about Driving! Chan said during a V-live and Lee Know wrote the lyrics (with a smurk face…).
The song is about driving your motorcycle and it has an amazing music video! The boys have really dripped out with swag and singing with the great use of AUTOTUNE to complement their singing. This song is so good to make you get more energy and is amazing to listen in the car when you’re driving on the highway! Please listen to it a lot!
4) TWENTY ONE PILOTS – CAR RADIO
This is an old song, but because the album “VESSEL” came out 10 years ago Twenty One Pilots did a live stream with songs of the album. Because of the attention the album got, I wanted to jump back in to that album.
Everybody has moments in their life they overthink!
This song really portraits the feeling of overthinking. When you tend to overthink you will do everything to “KIL YOUR MIND” by searching for distractions, but when you loose your distraction (in the meaning of a car radio getting stolen) you have to THINK!!! And it hurts…
QUIET IS VIOLENT… (one of the phrases in this song is so powerful)
The way Tyler is portraying his emotions through the singing/rapping he does in this song is so powerful! He is rapping the verses in a way you can feel his pain! This songs is so good at giving hope with the parts that are really hype and happy sounding, and Tylers SCREAMING VOCALS!!! In the end of the song the video loops back to the beginning part so it could be a vicious cycle… You find distractions and feel a bit better. But when it’s silent again, the darkness in you grows and you get back in the depression.
The song is AMAZING!!! I do think a lot of people will have some problematic “thoughts”, even if you think you are just a “normal” person. Try to talk to people about it or try to lower your stress levels to do some creative things with it. I think a lot of amazing songs are made out of relief for the artist to write down their feelings to help cope with it.
5) ITZY – CHESIRE
For the 5th song of this list it’s another JYP girlgroup and still on of my favorite girlgroups, I love the meaning of the lyrics from their songs! One of the best messages in their songs is still “WANNABE”! Just BE YOURSELF Don’t let anyone tell you who you need to be… BE HAPPY WITH YOURSELF and be proud of yourself! Because Wannabe is an old song I chose this song for my list.
This song also has an amazing catchy tune and some nice hints towards the CHESIRE cat from ALICE IN WONDERLAND! The girls always show of incredible dancing skills with great vocals! The part of the chorus that is so catchy is in my honest opinion: “HE WHY SO SERIOUS” and ofcourse the LA LA LA parts. In Itzy my favorite member is: Lia She is so funny and amazing in English! You should search for her cover of PRICE TAGS (the jessie-j song) and her cover of the song ISSUES by Julia Michaels.
FOR AN HONOURABLE MENTION MY NUMBER 1 FROM THE LIST OF DECEMBER
ALIEN by HAN of STRAYKIDS
You must think, why does he mention the same song in 2 consecutive months…
Because of one of my favorite YouTube reactors watched this version of the video, Animated by the youtuber @RIEL022 who makes Animated videos for Kpop songs! This video really portraits the story of HAN FROM STRAYKIDS…
I can not keep it dry the moment in the end when HAN FELT ALONE and was about to give up!!! And two guys reach out to him and they have DWEAKKI and CHANWOLF on their jackets!!!! SO AMAZING TO SEE so I really couldn’t keep it from you guys!
